Upset and a Mini: Men's Quarterfinals Wrap

All three first round playoff sites in the NCHA Men's Conference saw overtime, in some form or another.

In Stevens Point, the Pointers evened their series with UW-Superior at 1-1 with a 3-0 victory.  And after the regulation 20-minutes of the mini-game finished 1-1, UW-Stevens Point scored at 4:49 of sudden death overtime to win the series and send UWSP to the semifinals.

But instead of heading to number-one St. Norbert, the Pointers will travel to St. Scholastica next weekend - because UW-Eau Claire used overtime to defeat UW-River Falls and win its series 2-0.  Jordan Singer scored an empty-net goal (UW-River Falls had to win to keep the series alive) and the number-six Blugolds upset the Falcons and became the lowest remaining seed still alive into the semifinal round.  UW-Eau Claire will take on St. Norbert in De Pere next Saturday night.

And they went to overtime in Duluth, too, as St. Scholastica reached the 3-point plateau and series win when Tyler Miller scored at 1:19 of the extra session to eliminate UW-Stout.  The Saints will host UW-Stevens Point in the other semifinal next Saturday night.
