Men's Weekly Release: Fruitful Thanksgiving
SAINT PAUL (November 29, 2011) -- UW-Eau Claire traveled to Michigan for the Adrian Thanksgiving Tournament and came back with a pair of wins, one bright spot of several for the NCHA over the holiday.
The Blugolds put a nice line on their NCAA resume by knocking off then #4 Adrian 2-1. The teams traded power play goals in the first period and Tyler Romasco scored the eventual game-winner in the second.
In the title game of the tournament, UW-Eau Claire built a 3-0 lead after two periods and held on to win 3-1 over Buffalo State.
The Blugolds moved to 6-4 on the year and jumped back into the top 15 in the national rankings. They travel to UW-Stevens Point this weekend for conference play.
Saints Win Twice: In other weekend action St. Scholastica picked up two wins over MCHA opponents in Fond du Lac at the Marian Tournament. The Saints defeated host Marian 4-3 last Friday night with three unanswered third period goals, the last of which was scored by Chris Sinclair - his first of the season.
'Jackets Grab Road Win: UW-Superior picked up a road victory in Moorhead over Concordia College in a Thanksgiving-Eve matchup. Derek Stauber had two goals and an assist in the 6-1 win, which moved the Yellowjackets to 5-2-2 on the season.
St. Norbert Wins, Ties: The Green Knights beat Lawrence handily 5-1 and came back to tie Marian 5-5 in the Marian Tournament. Cody Keefer and Brandon Hoogenboom scored third period goals to rescue St. Norbert in the Saturday game against Marian. Keefer had three points on the weekend.
RANK: Four NCHA teams are back in the USCHO.com national rankings with UW-Eau Claire climbing back in this week. Idle UW-River Falls moved up to #4 this week, St. Norbert bumped to #5, UW-Superior jumped to #10 and UW-Eau Claire snuck back in at #15.
