In a light, three-game opening weekend last Friday and Saturday in non-conference play, UW-Stout emerged with a pair of victories while UW-Stevens Point lost a single game.

The Blue Devils defeated Concordia-Wisconsin 6-1 and Marian 6-2 in Menomonie.  In the 6-1 victory, UW-Stout gave up an early goal but rebounded with six unanswered.  Branden Gay (Calgary, AB / St. Mary's) was involved in five of the six scores, posting two goals and three assists.  In the win over Marian it was Kevin O'Donnell (Stoughton, Wis. / Stoughton)  racking up the points.  He bagged two goals and assisted on three others as UW-Stout cruised to a second straight win.

In other action last week, St. Norbert won its season opener 8-0 at Concordia-Wisconsin.  Seth Soley (Elk Mound, Wis.), who scored nine times all last season,  scored three times at CUW, getting off to a great start while pacing the Green Knights to the win.

UW-Stevens Point was the other team in action over the past week, falling 5-4 in a back-and-forth matchup with Marian.  The Pointers trailed most of the game but were able to tie the score at two when Harrison Neimann scored early in the third period.  But the tie lasted less than two minutes as the Sabres regained the lead and held on for the win.
