Marian University’s Stewart and Vorva
Sweep NCHA Men’s Hockey Weekly Honors
Marian University senior Hunter Stewart (F - Calgary, Alberta) is the NCHA Men’s Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore teammate Hunter Vorva (G - Kalamazoo, Mich.) is the NCHA Men’s Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Stewart put up some big numbers to claim NCHA Offensive Player of the Week honors. He opened the second half of the season in a big way with five points (4G/1A) as the Sabres clinched the team championship at the inaugural “Superior Showdown”. Stewart had a multi-goal game in each victory as the Sabres defeated No. 13/14 MSOE and host UW-Superior. His first goal against the Raiders proved to be the game-winner and he also added an assist against the Yellow Jackets for a three-point game. One of his goals against UW-Superior came on the power play.
Vorva gives the Sabres the weekly award sweep as the NCHA Defensive Player of the Week, marking the first time one school has accomplished the feat this season. Vorva allowed one just goal as the Sabres defeated No. 13/14 MSOE and UW-Superior to clinch the first-ever “Superior Showdown” title. Vorva opened the weekend with a 20-save blanking against the nationally-ranked Raiders, his third shutout of the campaign. He then stopped 12 shots against the host Yellow Jackets to close out the weekend with 32 saves and a .970 save percentage.
