St. Norbert wins Harris Cup Championship

Green Knights go 2-for-2 on the power-play in the 2nd period

ADRIAN, Mich. -- St. Norbert capitalized on the power-play in the 2nd period to win the Harris Cup Championship over Adrian, 3-1, inside Arrington Ice Arena.

With the victory, the Green Knights earned the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association's (NCHA) bid to the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA will announce the 13-team bracket at 9 am Monday. First-round games will be held Saturday, March 9.

It will be the Green Knights 21st NCAA Tournament appearance and is the 16th NCHA Harris Cup Championship title. St. Norbert last won the Harris Cup title in 2018-19 and Adrian won three of the last four playoff championships.



St. Norbert struck first in the opening period at 5:14 when Curtis Hammond found the back of the net off a pass from Calvin Hanson. The Green Knights extended their lead to 2-0 after Adam Stacho struck gold on the power-play at 3:54. Logan Dombrowsky and Carter Hottmann assisted on the marker.

Adrian scored its lone goal of the game at 8:02 in the 2nd period when Jaden Shields got a shot past the St. Norbert goalie. Zachary Heintz and Mathew Rehding were credited with the assists.

St. Norbert added an insurance goal, of the power-play variety, in the 2nd period at 11:49, when Hottmann netted a man-advantage score. Stacho and Dombrowsky were credited with assists on the play.

St. Norbert rookie Hunter Garvey made 35 saves in the victory and was named NCHA Tournament MVP and to the All-Tournament Team.
