ADRIAN, Mich. — The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) has announced its men's hockey 3 Stars of the Week for games played January 14-17.
Hassan Akl, F, Sr., Aurora
Akl, a native of Chestermere, Alberta, was an offensive force for the Spartans as they secured a key home-and-home sweep over Marian. The senior forward tallied 4 points (3G, 1A) over the two-game stretch. On Friday, Akl notched two goals, including a critical power-play marker. He followed that up on Saturday with a two-point performance, scoring the game-tying goal in the 1st period and adding an assist to help Aurora pull away for a 6-2 victory.
Jacob Brockman, F, Sr., Aurora
Brockman, a native of El Segundo, Calif., proved to be the ultimate playmaker for Aurora during their weekend sweep. The senior forward racked up four assists over the two contests, consistently setting up his teammates for success. Brockman recorded two helpers in Friday’s overtime thriller and added two more assists on Saturday.
Blake Hazelton, GK, Jr., Concordia Wisconsin
Hazelton, a native of Lake Orion, Mich., delivered a career-defining performance on Friday night to lead the Falcons to a memorable 1-0 upset over St. Norbert. The junior goaltender stood tall in the crease, stopping all 43 shots he faced to earn the shutout victory. Hazelton was under constant pressure, making 15 saves in both the 1st and 2nd periods and turning aside 13 more in the 3rd to protect a one-goal lead for the full 60 minutes.
