ADRIAN, Mich. — The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) has announced its men's hockey 3 Stars of the Week for games played January 8–10.
Alexander Babich, F, So., Trine
Babich, a native of Chicago, Ill., was the offensive catalyst in Trine’s 4–1 victory over rival Adrian on Thursday. The sophomore forward factored into three of the Thunder’s four goals, finishing the night with 3 points (1G, 2A). Babich provided the primary assist on the game-winning goal at 13:25 in the 2nd period and added another helper early in the 3rd frame. He capped off his performance with an unassisted goal midway through the final stanza to secure the upset win.
Roman Cherniak, F, Fr., Lawrence
Cherniak, a native of Medicine Hat, Alberta, led the Vikings to a 4–2 non-conference victory over Marian on Saturday. The rookie forward recorded a 3-point night (1G, 2A), including the most pivotal goal of the contest. Cherniak assisted on Lawrence's second goal late in the 1st period before netting the game-winner himself at 15:28 of the 2nd period. He added a secondary assist on an insurance goal in the 3rd period to complete his productive outing.
Kyle Kozma, GK, Sr., Trine
Kozma, a native of Vaughan, Ontario, stood tall in the crease to anchor Trine’s defensive effort against Adrian. The senior goaltender turned aside 40-of-41 shots faced, finishing the game with a stellar .976 save percentage. Kozma was particularly busy in the first two periods, making 33 saves, and held the high-powered Bulldogs scoreless for the final 40 minutes of play to earn the win.
