The latest USCHO Division III Men's Poll, released on January 19, signaled a week of stabilization and resurgence for the NCHA’s heavyweights. While Aurora solidified its status at No. 2, St. Norbert saw a slight dip following a split weekend, and both Adrian and Trine utilized dominant conference sweeps to reinforce their positions within the top 15.
Aurora (15-2-0) remains the nation's No. 2 ranked team with 278 points, trailing only undefeated Hobart. The Spartans faced a scare on Friday night against Marian, trailing late before forcing overtime and eventually securing a 5-4 victory in the extra session. They left no doubt in the Saturday rematch, coasting to a 6-2 win at home. The Spartans have now won nine-consecutive games
St. Norbert (11-5-1) slipped two spots to No. 5 (209 points) this week after it split a series with Concordia Wisconsin. The Green Knights suffered a frustrating 1-0 shutout loss on the road Friday night despite a heavy shot advantage. They managed to rebound on Saturday at home, earning a narrow 2-1 victory to stay inside the top-5.
After a tumble in last week’s poll, Adrian (12-5-0), held steady at No. 6 with 205 points. The Bulldogs took out their frustrations on Lake Forest, recording a convincing home sweep. Adrian exploded for 12 goals over the two games, winning 6-1 on Friday and 6-2 on Saturday. The offensive outburst, which included a five-goal first period in the series finale, suggests the Bulldogs have moved past the scoring drought that plagued them earlier in the month.
Trine (10-5-2) continues its two-week hot streak, moving up one spot to No. 14 (34 points) this week. The Thunder flexed their muscle with a road sweep of Lawrence. Trine’s defense was the story of the weekend, allowing just one goal in a 5-1 victory on Friday before recording a 5-0 shutout on Saturday.
The NCHA currently boasts four teams in the top 14 of the national poll, the most of any conference in the country, as the league enters the final stretch of the regular season.
