Adrian's Amsbaugh named finalist for AHCA Sid Watson award

Bulldog forward was also named NCHA Player of the Year

GLOUCESTER, Mass. — Adrian junior forward Ian Amsbaugh has been named a finalist for the 2025-26 Sid Watson Award, the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) announced.

The Sid Watson Award is presented annually to the top NCAA Division II-III men’s ice hockey player in the nation. Amsbaugh is one of seven finalists selected by head coaches across the country following a vote earlier this week.

A native of Bottineau, N.D., Amsbaugh earned the distinction after a dominant season for the Bulldogs, highlighted by being named the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Player of the Year. He led the conference in both assists (37) and points (49), showcasing his playmaking ability throughout the 2025-26 campaign.

Amsbaugh recorded nine multi-assist games this season, including three contests with three assists and one with four, finishing the year with 12 goals and 37 assists in 28 games. His consistent offensive production helped power Adrian to a 20-7-1 overall record, including a 14-3-1 mark in NCHA play.

Under his leadership on the ice, the Bulldogs captured the NCHA Peters Cup (regular season championship) and secured the No. 1 seed in the NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs.

The Sid Watson Award, named in honor of longtime Bowdoin College coach and athletic director Sid Watson, recognizes excellence in performance, leadership, and impact on the game at the Division III level. The winner of the 2026 Sid Watson Award will be announced during the NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Frozen Four.
