DE PERE, Wis. — St. Norbert secured its third-consecutive Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Harris Cup Championship on Saturday, defeating Aurora, 3-1, to claim the 18th tournament title in program history.
The victory continues the Green Knights' era of dominance in the NCHA and earns the program an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. For Aurora, the contest marked a historic milestone as the program’s first-ever appearance in the Harris Cup Championship game.
St. Norbert built a steady lead through execution and rebounding. The scoring opened when Blake Ulve deflected a long-range shot from Logan Dombrowsky near the blue line to give the Green Knights the early momentum.
The lead grew in the second period thanks to a highlight-reel effort by Calvin Hanson. Hanson wrapped around the back of the net and tucked a shot into the high stick side — beating Aurora goaltender Matt O'Donnell. Despite the cushion, St. Norbert faced a missed opportunity later in the frame, failing to capitalize on a 5-on-3 power play.
The Green Knights added insurance in the third period following a blue-line blast from Trevor Mitchell. Ryan Gingher corralled the rebound and buried the puck to make it 3-0.
Aurora refused to be shut out, breaking through with less than three minutes remaining in regulation. Lukas Sedlacek found the back of the net off assists from Jakson Kirk and Chayce Schmidt, but the late surge wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
St. Norbert now awaits its draws for the NCAA tournament, while Aurora will watch to see if it gives an at-large bid.
Following the game, the NCHA announced the Harris Cup All-Tournament Team.
