ADRIAN, Mich. — The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) has announced its 2024-25 men's hockey all-conference and all-freshmen teams, along with the season's major awards.
The Player of the Year is
Logan Dombrowsky, a sophomore from St. Norbert. The forward led all NCHA players with 35 points (12G, 23A) and had a league-high-tying 23 assists. The second-year player had 10 multi-point games, to go along with five power-play goals, and a conference-best-tying three short-handed markers. During NCHA play, the Stevens Point, Wis., native led all players with a +19 +/- differential. As of February 23, he was third nationally in points per game (1.63) and third in assists per game (1.07). Dombrowsky ranks top-10 nationally in four statistical categories. He was last year's NCHA Freshman of the Year.
"Logan Dombrosky had a tremendous off-season which has propelled his on-ice game to a new level," said Tim Coghlin, St. Norbert's head coach. "He is a humble young man who is just scratching the surface of the player he is likely to become. He plays in every big situation we have and the moment is never too big for him. He is a great teammate and locker-room guy. We are proud of and for him".
The Freshman of the Year is
Landry Schmuck, a forward from Aurora. The rookie had an outstanding season with an NCHA-best 18 goals in 16 games played. He totaled 24 points (18G, 6A) and had nine multi-point games. The Huntsville, Ala., native led the league with seven power-play goals and tallied a trio of game-winning goals. The forward has scored a goal or better in 13-consecutive games between December 29 and February 22. As of February 23, Schmuck leads the nation in points per game (1.89), goals per game (1.20) and power-play goals per game (10). He is also second in game-winning goals (8). He has set the Aurora season record for points, goals, game-winning goals and power-play goals.
"Landry is a relentless competitor who is an elite talent," said Jason Bloomingburg, Aurora's head coach. "He is absolutely electric every time he touches the ice. For me it all starts with Landry’s love for the game and how much he enjoys being around the rink, it’s contagious! The level of work ethic he brings every day is remarkable, you would never know he is a freshman. I knew Landry would be a great fit for our style of play. I had a really good feeling his game would complement a lot of players on our team, and in return their game would complement his as well. That is definitely what has happened this year. Landry’s and his line mates (Hassan Akl and Jacob Brockman) have elevated each other and have been absolute game changers for us all year. None of their success could’ve happened without each other. With 30 goals so far this year he can change a game at any time and has been a huge factor for our team’s success this season. I’m very impressed with the consistent level of maturity that Landry has shown every day on the ice, but ultimately more impressed with how he carries himself day to day off the ice."
The Coach of the Year, as voted on by the league's head coaches, is
Jason Bloomingburg from Aurora.
Bloomingburg led the Spartans to new heights during the 2024-25 season, winning the Peters Cup, awarded to the league's regular season champion. They finished with a 15-2-1 record and 47 points. They scored five or more goals in 10 games during conference play. Aurora began the season receiving just two points in the USCHO Poll and climbed to No. 2 in the country, which is the best ranking in program history. The Spartans had the NCHA's most potent offensive unit, leading all teams in goals per game (4.67), assists per game (8.50) and points per game (13.17). The also had the best power-play percentage (.289). As of February 23, the Spartans own the nation's best scoring offense.
"This is a tremendous honor, and it means a ton to be selected by your competitors," Bloomingburg said. "There is no doubt that the NCHA is the best conference in the country, with some of the best coaches, so it definitely brings you down to earth a bit. For me this is an ultimate team award! I’m very fortunate to have a lot of unbelievable people around me. It all starts with the players, and we have a lot of elite ones. This group is just built different, they buy in every day and give each other everything they got. Ultimately, we’re all in this together, but truthfully the players make us look good! Brian Dempsey definitely needs to be recognized as he does a remarkable job with the recruiting, and our Grad Assistant Joe Costello is such a great jack of all trade's glue/equipment guy. Everyone within our program trusts what we have built at Aurora. It has always been a when, not if we can get the program where it is today. At the end I love these guys so much, and appreciate how hard everyone works for each other, and how much everyone cares about each other."
