Adrian's Johnson named finalist for AHCA Laura Hurd award

Bulldog forward was named NCHA Co-Player of the Year

GLOUCESTER, Mass — Adrian senior forward Riley Johnson has been named a finalist for the 2025-26 Laura Hurd Award, the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) announced.

The Laura Hurd Award is presented annually to the top NCAA Division III women’s ice hockey player in the nation. Johnson is one of seven finalists selected by Division III head coaches following a nationwide vote.

Johnson earned national recognition after a standout senior campaign in which she was named Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Co-Player of the Year. She led Adrian with 54 points on 23 goals and 31 assists in 28 games, ranking among the nation’s leaders in scoring, assists, and overall offensive production.

A complete two-way presence, Johnson also posted a +45 rating, underscoring her impact in all situations for the Bulldogs. Behind Johnson’s leadership, Adrian compiled a 24-6-0 overall record, including a dominant 17-1-0 mark in NCHA play. The Bulldogs captured both the NCHA regular season title and the Slaats Cup Playoff championship, earning a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Sponsored by the American Hockey Coaches Association, the Laura Hurd Award honors the legacy of former Elmira College standout Laura Hurd and recognizes excellence in performance, leadership, and impact on the game at the Division III level. The winner of the 2026 Laura Hurd Award will be announced during the NCAA Division III Women’s Hockey Frozen Four later this week.
