ADRIAN, Mich. — The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) has announced its women's hockey 3 Stars of the Week for games played January 14-17.
Hannah Baumann, F, Jr., MSOE
Baumann enjoyed a massive week for the Raiders, totaling 7 points (4G, 3A) over three victories. The Germantown, Wis., native began the week with two goals and an assist in a 4-2 win over Beloit, which included the game-winner and a power-play score. She followed that up with a three-point performance (1G, 2A) in a thrilling 4-3 overtime win against Dubuque, which included an assist on the game-winning goal. Baumann capped her week by scoring the game-winning goal in Saturday's 4-1 series sweep of the Spartans.
Abby Hansberger, F, Fr., Concordia Wisconsin
Hansberger produced a clutch performance during the Falcons' high-stakes series against St. Norbert. The freshman from Winona, Minn., recorded a hat trick on Friday night to erase a 2-0 and 3-1 deficit. Her third goal of the game came with just 1:36 remaining in regulation while the goalie was pulled for an extra attacker, forcing a 3-3 tie on the road. Hansberger's heroics preserved the Falcons' unbeaten conference streak in a battle between two of the top teams in the NCHA.
Gretchen Paaverud, GK, So., Concordia Wisconsin
Paaverud was a wall in the crease during a high-stakes series against No. 14 St. Norbert, stopping 51-of-54 shots over two games. On Friday, the Ramsey, Minn., native kept the Falcons within striking distance by making 29 saves in a 3-3 overtime draw. The netminder stopped all seven shootout attempts by the Green Knights. Paaverud then saved her best performance for Saturday's finale, turning aside all 22 shots she faced to earn a shutout victory. The sophomore finished the weekend with a .944 save percentage. and a 1.41 GAA against one of the league's top offenses.
